Levsin Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Levetiracetam

HYOSCYAMINE (Anaspaz®, Cystospaz®, Gastrosed®, Levbid®, Levsin®, Levsin/SL®, Levsinex®) is used to treats different type of problems such as including irritable bowel syndrome. Levsin (hyoscyamine) is an anti-spasmodic medicine that, we have used to relaxes the muscles of the gut and prevents spasms. Levsin medicine is also used to help in controlling conditions such as includes colitis, spastic bladder, diverticulitis, infant colic, renal and biliary colic, peptic ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome, splenic flexure syndrome, and pancreatitis.

Levsin Dosage

• The intially dose should be 1 to 2 tablets every 4 hours or as you needed. Do not take more than 12 tablets in 24 hours.
• The commonly dosage you should take one-half to 1 tablet every 4 hours or as you needed. Do not give a child more than 6 tablets in 24 hours.

Uses of Levsin

• Hyoscyamine is used to treat a variety of stomach and intestinal tract disorders such as includes peptic ulcers, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, colitis, or pancreatitis.
• Levsin medicine is also used to treat bed-wetting and frequent urination, prevent motion sickness, treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms, Parkinson's disease or poisonings due to certain insecticides and plants.
• L-hyoscyamine should be used before surgery to reduce secretions of the nose, lungs, salivary glands, and stomach, and it is even used to treat dry up excessive mucus production associated with diseases, colds, and infections.
• Tacrine is used to improve thinking and memory in patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Side Effects of Levsin

When you are taking Levsin medicine, then possible side effects may occur. Before started to taking Levsin medicine, consult to your doctor about the possible side effects that may occur during treatment. Side effects may include:

• Allergic reactions
• bloating
• blurred vision
• confusion
• constipation
• decreased sweating
• dilated pupils
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• dry mouth
• excitement
• headache
• hives
• impotence
• inability to urinate
• insomnia
• itching

Warnings and precautions before taking Levsin:

• Do not used this medicine without talking to your doctor or you should not be used, If you have any of the following health problems kidney disease, liver disease, glaucoma, heart problems, certain diseases of the urinary tract.
• After taking Levsin medicine you will be feel sleepy, dizzy or drowsy, or blur your vision. So do not drive, operate other machinery and do not perform any activites where you have to need alertness.

Drug Interaction :-

Do not use any drugs, when you are taking Levsin medicine. Because it may increased, decreased or alter the effects of Levsin medicine or it may cause to the other serious effect. So first consult to your doctor before combining Levsin medicine with the following drugs:

• Amantadine (Symmetrel)
  
• Antacids
  
• Antidepressant drugs such as Elavil, Nardil, Parnate, and Tofranil
  
• Antihistamines such as Benadryl
  
• Major tranquilizers such as Thorazine and Haldol
  
• Other antispasmodic drugs such as Bentyl
  
• Potassium supplements such as Slow-K

Overdose

If you feel the overdose is suspected, contact to your doctor immediately. Symptoms of a L-hyoscyamine overdose include:

• headache
• nausea
• vomiting
• dry mouth
• difficulty swallowing
• blurred vision
• dilated pupils
• hot
• dry skin
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• confusion
• anxiety seizures
• weak pulse
• an irregular heartbeat
